Let's Hear It For The Girls

Oct 16, 2007 03:01

Reading this story about a dude in Philly who raped more than 100 women and got away with it stared me thinking about the relationship between the sexes and how, more often than not girls get the short end of the stick ( Read more... )

I think your generalizations are fine; my friends and I make lists like this (out loud) on a regular basis. Although, as texmorgan can attest, I've managed to overcome #7 XD

Rome Girl has mastered #7 as well.

She's figured out that as long as she has her boobs I'm pretty much OK with her farting, burping, snoring, whatever.

i've thought about these before. in addition to the biologic clock ticking and the pregnancy/rape scares, you should include the torture we go through every month --- menstrual cycles. when i was a kid, my sister and i wanted to be guys. LOL

I had an item on that in the original list but deleted it because so many women get pissed off when men talk about menstruation in any context.

I think a lot of girls think we don't have the right to bring it up because it's totally outside our experience.

Personally, I find my period annoying, but I agree with your not including it in the list, especially since your list is primarily about how women get a raw deal in terms of sex, relationships, safety, and power, compared to men. The period is more of a simple biological fact, I think, and, yes, while some women hate it unreservedly (like sexy_sassy) others see it as part of their identity.

it does however limit some women in when and where they can have sex. Some may not feel comfortable having sex with their period, esp if it is casual sex. And men like to complain about that too!

I don't have a problem with this list. My last hour in Paris was ruined by some dutch asshole who couldn't conceive that a woman just wanted to sit by the Seine and stare and think. He kept talking to me. It was broad daylight, and in New York I would have told him to fuck off and hoped that passersby would prevent any action on his part. But unable to speak the passerby language, I just left and went early to catch my train.

Right.

That's what I'd hate about being a girl. The assumption that you sorta need a friend to go out with if you want to go out and that if you go out on your own you are "available."

If I had to call up a friend every time I wanted to go out for a drink or whatever I'd go insane.

You figure out the places you can go by yourself. Since I sometimes drink at odd hours, I know a few bars downtown where a lady can be left alone.

I imagine there are a few in Chelsea where a girl wouldn't be given a second glance.

Yes. These are things that I don't have to deal with anymore!

OK, well I have to deal with the how I look when I go out part. But the older I get the less I care what other people think.. especially other men!
