Recently a landlord in Germany had a problem. He had nice marble floors in the bathrooms of his apartments. He noticed that when male tenants moved out the floors around the toilets were almost always damaged to some degree. That is ridiculous! It's one thing to tell your 8 year old son to sit down to pee because, well, he's 8 years old and doesn't know any better. But to tell an adult that? Jeez.

how could you enforce a rule like that? put cameras in the bathroom?

a more reasonable request (which most leases have)-is that the tenant be responsible for any damage they cause. Thats what security deposits are for.

I've been in all-male households in Germany where there are signs in their bathrooms insisting that ALL people pee sitting down. It's kind of a big deal in Germany. The scourge of urine splashing is upon the minds of many a' Deutsche.
