His DVD?

Aug 30, 2010 23:50

 Hi!

I'm not sure if this is allowed by the mods. But I just wanted to ask some questions!

1. I have the last one. It was brilliant. Is this one worth buying? Who going?

2. On John Barrowman's website, it says his DVD is on pre-order, and it's Region 0 (Region free) that means I can order it from America, correct?  And does the PAL or NTSC mean ( Read more... )

dvd releases, help!

If you're in the US, you'll want to order the NTSC. I did it on the last one and I haven't had any problems with it.

I didn't think the tour had started yet. Isn't it in October?

So - you're right. :D I changed it. (Oh the joys of being in America and not having to fuss over when he's going on tour.) But still, it's already on pre-order...the second question was probably my biggest.

Order it from a UK online store bimba2021 August 31 2010, 07:35:30 UTC
You'll find it much less expensive to pre-order his new RAH 2010 concert dvd from a UK online store like amazon.co.uk or hmv.com or play.com for example. Because the dvd is considered an import as it's from the UK, the US websites crank up the price unnecessarily, imho. Tonight I found the JB 2009 Glasgow concert dvd on sale on the Amazon USA website for about $40(USD) or £26(GBP). Checking for the same dvd on the Amazon UK site the price was about £7.50(GBP) or $11.60(USD). A increase in price of about 300%!

Also, if you are concerned about shipping costs and time from the UK...don't worry. There is a UK Royal Mail standard media package price which is about £6.00(GBP) or $9.25. And it will arrive in the USA in about 6-10 days depending on how far west it has to go. I live in the northeast USA and I get packages from the UK in 6-8 days on average.

To explain some more things: Due to copyrigth reasons - a DVD which is solled to one market shouldn't be available to another - movies and tv-series usually are region-locked as well as are the dvd players (although you can find some players which play any region). Regiona1 is North America, Region 2 Europe and so on. Region 0 means regionfree so this dvd will play on any players.

The video norm used in USAS is NTSC, in Europe it's pal. Most eurepean players and tv-setss can play NTSC though. Not sure if US one play pal so to be on the safe side order NTSC.

And as already suggested it's often cheaper to order via an UK-online-store then buy in the US. You just need a creditcard.

Hi, sorry to jump in but I have a really stupid question: Does it affect computers? I'm on an iMac and I don't know if I should get NTSC or PAL.

Oh I agree, I'm on a Mac as well. I think I'll stick to the NTSC one though. Obviously American DVDs run on it. And if I play I ever want to play on the TV, i'll need it.

As far as I know it has no effect on computers. The difference between Pal and NTSC lays in the different framerate and resolution of the picture. Your computer graphic card should be able to deal with both. But if you want to have the option to run it on an US-tv as well you rather stick with NTSC to be on the save side.

Another thing to watch ordering from AmazonUK is to see if your credit card charges you for ordering in foreign currency. Mine does, something like a buck and a half, although I've not tried the AmazonUK feature to set them up in dollars before actually placing the order, that might solve that problem. But in any case, even if your credit card charges to convert the charge to dollars, it's still cheaper, at least for me, to order from AmazonUK instead of Amazon.com. The prices for "imports" are THAT much higher. I've ordered from them twice now, with no problems. :)

Still debating on whether to get the box set or not and then just ebay the extra copy of the first dvd, which I already have. Haven't heard whether the box set will be NTSC or not, that might be a deciding factor right there. I can convert from PAL to NTSC, but it's kind of a pain, so would rather not.

Will there be a box set? I didn't see an option for it. (And by box set, i'm assuming you mean the other disc as well.)

If there is one, I probably won't get it unless it has like a special features disc as well. If it's like the same as last year, where you just have the special features option on the main menu, I'll probably just get the one disc because I have the other..

I think I'll just order the one now. :D Looks like people think it's a fine idea.

There will be a box-set which features last yours concert and this years. The extra would be a booklet which comes with it and obviously has pictures from John's private fotogalery in it. That's what amazon advises. So far it's not annoucned in NTSC but as the singel DDVs are I guess there shouldn't be a problem to put them together as a box as well.

btw If you want to re-sell amazon also has this offer, given the US-branch works like to german one. Given that the us-price is higher then the UK-one you even amy be able to earn more from it then from selling on ebay.
