Because the The Complete Lyrics of Cole Porter has to go back tomorrow, I'm tracking down all the Cole Porter songs that John Barrowman covered.

I started with "John Barrowman Swings Cole Porter" and "De-Lovely," but I'm stuck going forward. I think I have all the scatterings of Cole Porter in "Reflections from Broadway" and John's concerts, but I' ( Read more... )

There's one from the "Anything Goes" cast recording that I'm not seeing on the list, and that's 'All Through The Night'.

Oh, and 'Easy To Love' on the Cole Porter Album is the bonus track on that album, which is the same recording from "Anything Goes". Unless of course, you've got a different copy or know of one from the 2003 cast recording of the show.....

'Easy To Love' is also on the "Musicality of Cole Porter" compilation disc.

Hope this helps.

I'm slightly amused by the idea of these as "covers." That's more like what he did on some of the cheesey bits of Another Side, where he does songs that have a strong association with the original artist. I wouldn't think of that word when working with show-tunes and standards, but that's just my quirk.

I still think Swings Cole Porter is John's most perfect album and the sexiest cover. I really, really wish he'd do a Gerwishwin, Kern, Rogers & Hart, etc album along those lines. (Like the Ella Fitzgerald songbooks of the 50s and 60s.) He could do the more familiar ones, but also some of the more obscure gems and really put an imprint on them. I know he can do what he wants, but John Barrowman shouldn't be wasting his gifts on some of that slop. IMAO

(I mean seriously, at no time on Another Side, does he sound as purely happy singing as he does on "Don't Fence Me In.")
