In order to release a bit the tension wich I created and bring back some fun and silliness into the comm, I want to share my two recent action figure stories here as well. Apologies if you already have seen them somewhere else, but maybe there is someone out there who hasn't. And maybe we could even start a discussion about the book ( Read more... )

I'm sure your niece will enjoy it, and you should ask her to lend it to you once she is finished.
I was a bit afraid that it might be boring, with lots of strange places and weird people, but it isn't. It all feels very real. I listened to an interview where John said that he does not like books with a long opening chapter, he wants to get to the action right away.

Yeah, not everyone has an Uncle John who brings over first editions of Harry Potter before they come out in the US. Shipping from the UK surely isn't cheap, is it?

Inititally I did even want to wait till the second one comes out and then order as a pair to get it cheaper, but found I couldn't wait that long.

I'm very curious whether this might get translated into German. They did with the Torchwood novels, after all, so why not? And if that TV series or even movie is going to happen, that will make the name Barrowman a bit more famous over here.

I've read it and enjoyed it. It is a children's book with short chapters but the characters are well drawn and the plot works leaving itopen for the next one. Well worth a read.

I agree, the characters are very lively and "real". Especially the children, I imagine it can be hard as an adult to get children right since it was so long ago.

That's so great to hear! Lovely image. My father also always read a fairytale to me each evening.

Later, once I had learnt to read myself, I never stopped. That and drawing were my favourite things, so the book really pushes all my buttons!
