Did she just back out (not show back up at the table) or did she say something directly to you? I've had this happened a number of times to me also as an MOL. Several times I have actually (very nicely) explained the hoops that had just been jumped so this person can play. On the positive side usually the person stays in a couple of more rounds (or at least one more to make the tourney work). Those who didn't - well..... it was at in kingdom events and MOL's talk.
She wheetled to get into the Warriors of History Tourney, she fought for one round and then came by the table and said "okay, bye, I am going to fight in the Iron Rose Tourney for a while". I understand that folks leave tournies for all kinds of reasons and I don't mind when it is a reason that makes sense to me: my knee, my Queen, my child, my armour, any of those it totally valid and I will do mathematical calisthenics without complaint. It was the 'make it specail for me' followed by 'oh, um, nevermind' that irritated me.
Very rude. Oh - I didn't mean MOL and Martials I ment MOL to other MOL's. These type of folks quickly learned that screwing with the MOL table made them out in 2 most of the tournies they entered. Kinda like how the heavy fighters deal with people who wont take shots *grin*
huh. I had not considered that. I was more of the mind to explain in excrutiating detail how it all works and how important it is to comit, as if the listener were brandy new to the sca and would benefit from such information. I am pretty sure I can do it for 10 full minutes in the hot sun with a smile on my face, arm gestures and occaisional drawings.
I am assuming she just did not know. I had thought that someone who had been around the sca long enough to have documentable armor would know a bit about tourney etiquette. I have a plan...
