I've been sitting on whether or not to go see this or wait for the DVD. Same with X-Men. Y'see, I grew up with the Marvel comics when they were new and challenging the supremacy of DC Comics. I remember Sgt. Fury and His Howling Commandos, Thor, and all those guys long before they became a team. I actually remember the introduction of Peter Parker and getting pissed at Jameson.
I think I'll go see it in the movies after all. Thanks, Steve.
I'm a DC guy, baronernst, and only got into Marvel via the movies, so Capt. America and Iron Man: that's all shiny and new to me. During HS and college, when comics were maturing, I'd heard about all the cool stuff but didn't get into it. So the first X-Men film was a revelation: here was a superhero story for grownups...well, relative to the 50's/60's stuff I remembered. Then I got into the modern versions of Superman (Clark isn't the secret identity; Superman is) and Batman (what baggage would make a normal human do that?). Then there was Kingdom Come: wow.
GL though...always been a fan, and made a point of trying to catch up after my hiatus. The movie, as I said, could've been better, but I was pretty satisfied.
