It's really weird that we've had no formal announcement, just random stuff from interviews like this.
It was funny, because I was thinking about this and thinking "but wouldn't she have been pregnant during himym if she had the baby now?" but then I realised if the baby was born early January that means Cobie wouldn't have been very pregnant, if at all, at the time of the failnale (and certainly not when it was filmed). So in the time himym has been off air, there's been enough time for a whole pregnancy, that's weird. It doesn't feel that long ago.
It amuses me that the internet is still angry about the failnale though (if more quietly than earlier) bet CTCB thought they'd be over this by now.
It's super weird that there was no birth announcement.
Even the most private of celebrities will always have their publicist release an official statement saying, yes, a baby was born on this day. Even if the sex and name aren't released they say that much. Here the baby has been around for three weeks and no one even knew.
But, wow! She looks amazing. I can't believe she gave birth only three weeks ago!
Best wishes to Cobie and family on the happy event. It is interesting that there's no formal announcment. Maybe they're just private?
Odd as well to think that we will be coming up, this spring, on a whole year w/o HIMYM. It really doesn't feel that long ago at all.
Not odd at all that the internet is still angry about the failnale. Nope, CB/CT, we're not getting over this one, and it's been long enough to create an actual IRL person. That says a lot.
It's almost a year, the internet still hates it and still talks about it but things have died down in the last few weeks. Cobie having the baby in secret with no announcement seems weird, I agree even the most private of celebrities would have announced the birth, the sex, the name within a day or so after giving birth. It's very odd!
I don't blame the anger that's still happening with the failnale it's amusing to know that we still getting angry posts but again it has died down recently. With the failnale anniversary coming up it will only make things more worse for CT/CB but hey I don't care they royally screwed up.
I do hope all is well with the new addition to Cobie's family, and hopefully some announcement will be forthcoming.
I don't blame the anger, either. I cannot say how many writing workshops I have attended that press home how important it is to keep promises made to the reader/viewer - break them, and the reader/viewer will never forget and will make sure as many of their friends will hear about it as they can. True words, and wise ones.
The vast majority of the viewership rejecting the finale really is the ultimate reaction to such a big let down. Maybe we need a "finale is dead" anniversary party in the community?
I would love to do a best episode rewatch livestreamed over the time the failnale aired last year (I don't know how to livestream but if anyone with the experitise wants to offer) - we could watch episodes like Sandcastles and Disaster Averted and Rehersal Dinner, while talking as a community - if we advertised it here and on the swarkles side of tumblr I'm convinced we could get a nice group of people to squee and be happy about our show on the unfortunate anniversary.
I love this quote from Cobie from one of her new Sundance interviews when asked about HIMYM:
"I've gone back and watched Season 1, and we look like children. It's even a different show from Season 1 to Season 9. It changed so much even within those nine seasons that we had. We had time to change the show, and change the characters, and watch these characters grow and work together in different ways."
See, she gets it. She understands that what the show was in Season 1 is NOTHING like what is was by Season 9. The show had changed drastically. The characters had changed drastically. Literally nothing was the same. And everyone recognized that and grew with the times, except for Carter Bays. And given the controversy surrounding the AUE, I think it's an interesting statement for her to make, and dwell specifically on the fact that the show and characters had transformed from the time CB wrote that ending.
It was drastically different, the show change a lot from season 1 to season 2. She really does understand the situation, it's great that the cast can be so blunt now about the series now that it's over. Just because you wrote something a decade ago doesn't make it a finished script and clearly it wasn't finished just glued on at the end because CB couldn't part with an ending that didn't make sense with the changes that were made in the show. I don't care how much you try to claim that ending is true to life, it simply wasn't true to life at all and finally the cast is getting on board with the never ending support against that failnale.
*Applaud to Cobie* She gets it and I love her for it...
To borrow from Barney, is it even possible to love this woman more? Yes. Yes, it is. I love that Cobie gets it. The show really was different from the first to the last season, and an ending written for the first season had no chance of even coming close to working by the end of the show, because the characters had grown and changed that much, and come together in different configurations than originally planned.
