I think both were really devastated over their breakup because they ended so quickly and were still in love that they still had strong feelings for each other after that breakup. It devastated both of them, they were both real messes after that. Yes they went back to how things were before becoming a couple but both were not over each other. They pretended to be okay but they weren't and it was very clear with Robin's look at the end of "Challenge Excepted" and Barney keeping all of their memories while dating in a big box in a storage unit.
I was really pleased to see they didn't choose the AUE divorce. I was certain that's what I was going to see when I clicked on this link, so kudos to them for ignoring that 8 year old script like the rest of us have. And double kudos to them for actually acknowledging and appreciating that Barney was devastated after the breakup and not just eager and raring to get back out there to womanize as some general fans (and T/R shippers) have tried to say.
Any time I think about the AUE it still makes me livid with CT/CB but at this point even more than the anger it just strikes me as so incredibly ridiculous. All you have to do is look at our icons to know that Barney and Robin were crazy in love with each other and would never, ever under any circumstances divorce because they've spent 8 years getting it together, they never want to be without each other ever again, and in fact can't even function without each other as numerous episodes have attested to.
Same. I still go off on one whenever anyone brings up the subject. Granted, all my friends who could be considered fans of the show are quite happy to join in the rant and we're unanimous in our derision of CT/CB, but casual viewers who just accept the AUE bother me when they mention it.

Anyone who says that Robin never loved Barney enough to want to marry him is proven wrong by the way they were written in this episode. I will talk more about this when we get to it in rewatch but I recently saw this breakup episode and just by the way they acted with their breakup tells you a lot about how they took the breakup after this episode

The AUE divorce was a joke and the vast majority of viewers knew that. Irrelevant and insignificant! I would agreed that the their breakup in season 5 was tough on both of them as the later episodes in season 5 attest. I was so annoyed when it happened, I was really getting into them a couple and they broke them up sooo fast.
The Ted/Robin breakup wouldn't even merit a mention. They hadn't been dating long, it was mutual, and they became best friends after. Pretty good for a breakup, I'd say

The "divorce" was a joke those two will always love each other no matter how far apart emotionally they are. The "I don't love you like that anymore" line was going against everything we were told and shown over the prior seasons. Barney & Robin will always love each other no matter what happens a reunion saying they still love each other and the "divorce" was the better route to take doesn't solve any of their problems. And, don't give me Robin doesn't love Barney or she rather be with Ted it just did not fit with everything else we've seen for it. She had zero feelings for Ted, and turned him down not only in season 1 but after their breakup repeatedly telling him "no" more than she can breathe.
Swarkles have a forever in love sticker attached to their asses they are and will always before more than just friends. That went out the window after they slept together and had feelings for each other before they slept together.
Divorce? Please. These two are joined at the heart and always will be. If they did separate, it wouldn't be for long, and they'd be back in each other's arms and lives in a heartbeat. Robin didn't love Ted, and never would.
I love the forever in love stickers reference, because it's blindingly obvious. Even if they did separate, do not tell me they didn't have "just one drink" after T/T's wedding and then the next thing anybody knows, they're both missing and call three days later from a hotel room in Las Vegas or Ontario or Perth. They'll do that until one of them is in the ground, and God help any other potential partners, because those others will always fall away. B/R are a force of nature.
I forgot to mention that I love that they use their engagement picture in this it shows where peoples minds will go when they're really pissed off about something.
