I feel like the more we add to worship, the easier it is to get swept up. The lighting and sound equipment, the bands of 10 or more people. In-ears, click-tracks, midi-loops, dynamic backgrounds that change behind the words on the screen.

None of these things in themselves are bad, but together they can become an incredible distraction.

We put so much work in to the production, meanwhile the song lyrics get more generic, the messages become more about us, and the musicians become so concerned with looking and sounding cool that they forget they're worshiping.

Sometimes, worship feels so rehearsed and forced like they're screaming "okay, this is the part where the holy spirit is supposed to change you. Be changed. Now! Do it!"

God doesn't move according to us. We move according to God.
