The Bar of Love

Nov 15, 2008 18:17

It's about half past seven on a Saturday in early November. I've been on since four, and I'm still not used to the fact that it's already starting to get dark by that time of the afternoon now that Daylight Saving Time is over. It makes me feel like it's later than it really is, so even though I'm a night owl, I keep checking my watch to see how ( Read more... )

No matter what we're looking for, I really believe Vonnegut was right:

“There is love enough in this world for everybody, if people will just look.” -Kurt Vonnegut, Cat’s Cradle

haha an American author thinks love is easy to come by, does he? Well I also hear that the Emirs have an abundance of oil, Californians have no trouble finding sunshine, and the Swiss have a lot of snow! Privilege, privilege - makes it so easy to trivialize other people's problems.

Vonnegut doesn't say anything about love being easy. He just says you have to look for it. Doesn't mean you'll find it right away.

I don't think finding happiness (and love) is a result of living a privileged life. I'm not naive, I know that privilege (and I'm sure by your implication, wealth) can lead to opportunity, but even that doesn't guarantee finding love or happiness. Regardless, I didn't quote Vonnegut to trivialize anything. I just happen to agree with his statement. (Call me a romantic, naive, or whatever -- but I really think that love is out there for all of us. I'm sorry to hear you don't feel the same way.)

Hmmm... perhaps. I just *lose it* when someone tells lonely people to 'be patient' or 'just try' - some of us have been 'patient' and have been 'just trying' for years and even decades. Love is chemical, and if your pheremone set doesn't bespeak the right immune system compatibility - you're sunk.

Are you doing NaNoWriMo this year?

I just hit the 25k mark, and I am ecstatic!
