I've been meaning to post something for the last few weeks. Hard to know what to say, really, other than to describe what's been going on
( Read more... )
I can only imagine what you went through and what others there are still living through.
My co-worker's nephew is also teaching there and four a few days they couldn't get in touch with him. Everyone was worried and panicked until he was able to call (or email) them to say he was at a shelter and was okay.
I'm glad to hear that you're okay and that life for you is slowly getting back to normal. Can you hazard a guess at the long term ramifications for Japan? What's the sentiment amongst the people? I can guess there's concern about the nuclear reactors but is it something people are constantly thinking about or a reality that settles in the back of the mind?
What a crazy adventure though. In a way you're at least involved in a fairly major - though terrible - historical event. Something to tell your kids about someday.
Have you had thoughts about going back to Canada at all? Sucks being so lonely.
I'm actually going back to Canada for two weeks, starting tomorrow. Just a visit, but enough to get me away for a while so I can relax, rather than drive myself crazy wondering when the hell I'm going to see anyone.
I'm trying to cram as many books and things in my suitcase as I can, so I can leave them in Canada rather than shipping them home next year. (Protip: if you live in a foreign country for an extended period, download pirated e-books or get a Kindle. BOOKS ARE HEAVY.)
For some reason I thought your teaching contract was up and you were already back in North America. When I saw your post, I had a moment of sickening horror, even though you are clearly OK since you are able to post a LJ entry.
I'm heading to Tokyo tomorrow, and I'll be flying to Canada on Thursday. Probably won't have time for a package to make it, unless it's small. Wait until I get back to Japan, or when I take a summer trip home in a few months. :)

Things are getting back to normal, but I'll be glad to take a break. I'm looking forward to my two weeks in Canada.
