When last we met, I was raving about the preceeding collection of Callahan's stories, Callahan's Cross-time Saloon . This is the second such collection of Callahan stories, and, while I still love the Callahan universe, I can definitely say I liked the first book better ( Read more... )

Sadly, Spider's books continue to go downhill; the most recent few are pretty awful. Night of Power is probably most Robinson fans' least favorite, but I find it interesting for its exploration of race issues. The Free Lunch is his best recent book. Melancholy Elephants is good, and the Stardance trilogy is definitely worth a read. Other than these, you may not want to go much further with Spider.

If you're going to keep reading Robinson, get used to the Heinlein masturbation--dude fucking LOVES Heinlein, even including his cat in later books. It's intense.

As a sidenote, my friend once had sex with Spider Robinson and a bunch of other people in a van in Canada.
