Hello, I'm Chrysilla, and I'm the main moderator 'round here. Please read thru all the rules and such I have on the main info page.

This month's book will be *drumroll*...

Coraline, by Neil GaimanI haven't figured out what charity to donate to, however. Feel free to comment with your suggestions ( Read more... )

To whom would I make a book suggestion? I think The Red Tent by Anita Diamant would be a good one for assorted reasons (cultural, symbolic, feminist, etc).

Right here is a good place to put a book suggestion :-) And that's a good suggestion!

Each month or so the mods will probably put up a book suggestion post, so members can just comment their suggestions.

Congradulations, yours is the first community comment ;-)

I think this is a cool idea, and I'm very excited about seeing what everyone comes up with. I just ordered my copy of the book.

I don't live anywhere close to NY, but I'll be happy to share through comments and photos.

Since we are all coming from different areas, how is the ebay/donation thing going to work? Also what if somone wants to make something for themselves and/or ends up spending quite a bit on supplies for a particular project. Is that aspect mandatory or is it optional?

Oh, the ebay thing is optional, since every person would have to take care of their own auctions and donations. I just thought it would be a nice thing to do with group projects. And I know what it's like to put a piece together and not be able to give it up. The crafters can really do whatever they want with their work, but I just ask people to only post links to their auction sales if they are for charity.

I love this idea. I'll have to go out and buy Coraline some time this week.

Hiya -
I just joined and am probably going to be more of a watch the pretty shiny things and hope for some inspiration sort of member, as opposed to an active monthly participant, but for a charity, since January's book is by Neil Gaiman, why not donate to one of his favorite charities, the Comic Book Legal Defense fund -http://www.cbldf.org/?

Slinking back to the shadows now...;)
