I never thought I'd say this in my life, but I am so glad I am not in London right now. :(
I've been watching BBC World News to keep up with the coverage and it's just insane. Even if people are angry (and god knows with the way the world economy is going, it's justified) rioting and looting and burning down buildings is not the way to make it better. *sigh*
This is just horrible and my heart goes out to everyone.
3. The popular reason given for the moment when all hell broke loose is that a 16 year old girl started shouting abuse at the police, whereupon 4 officers beat her to the ground with their truncheons. Gods alone know if this is true, some garbled Nth generation rumour or a complete fabrication.
I still can't believe this is actually happening. I'd been rushed off my feet since Sunday and hadn't seen any TV or papers so I just naively assumed it would have blown over. Finally catching up with the news yesterday was a hell of a shock.
I think the thing is, that if the police and successive governments spend thirty years treating whole sections of society like scum, they shouldn't really be too surprised when they start acting like it.
But no, the official line is that they just kind of decided to to all of this, because they're thugs. And evil. And nothing to do with us shooting people and covering it up and battering teenage girls for giving us lip, certainly not, guv'nor.

I just can't even. Watching the news now to see the latest. Quite an interesting live blog going on over at The Guardian: http://www.guardian.co.uk/uk/blog/2011/aug/08/london-riots-third-night-live
It's a sad few days for this country. :|

If Mark Duggan was armed and the police considered him a danger to their lives they were well within their rights to take action.
As for the beating teenage girls. Rumour and as yet uncorroborated.
