Commentary and Meta Analysis

My reaction to this episode was mixed. On the one hand, the performances, direction, and technical production aspects were absolutely stellar, and it filled my eyes and broke my heart in ( Read more... )

It's challenging to both love this show passionately and yet be appalled at some of the inconsistencies in the writing and revisions of canon, especially this season.

But it is still the best thing on TV.

If I sit back and don't put much thought into it I can easily say I loved this finale.

But then my mind wanders. Like, who did Sam confess to? Will there be a forest of Grace-trees? A baby boom? How did Metatron control a spell he had only performed one third of?

Also, obviously I'm willing to believe the unbelievable, but, like you say, don't screw with canon. It kinda makes me feel like Show thinks we're too dumb to notice.

Rock On,
Alley

Hey, Alley! I'm hanging in there. I wasn't bothered by Sam's confession; there wasn't a priest to grant absolution, but his confession itself was definitely heartfelt and genuine; I could handwave that as being enough to result in purification. Also, Metatron instigated and oversaw all three parts of the spell, so I had no problem with that, either. Unlike Sam and the trials, there didn't seem to be a requirement that a single agent perform all the acts to charge himself up; it was just that certain conditions needed to apply for the spell to work. Wouldn't be surprised to know he'd taken blood from the Nephilim and the bow from the cupid, either.

The grace trees and angel boom are definitely an issue for me, though!

More meta are coming; stay tuned! *grin*

I always love and enjoy your in-depth analysis of each episode. Dean and Sam have a very complex relationship and I love to look at how they act and react to each other in different circumstances. I enjoyed your analysis about how each brother needs support and how they react to what the other brother gives them. If only we could know and understand better how each person we deal with (family & friends) on a daily basis best reacts to feedback. If we knew and understood that, we would have a lot less disagreements. I have learned a lot about myself watching the brothers deal with each other, and I have come to realizations about myself and my brothers in our ever changeable relationships. Like the Winchesters, the angst and misunderstanding goes round and round and round. I definitely loved it how Dean was finally able to get through to Sam about how important he really is in Dean's life and that nothing and no one will ever be more important. We have seen Dean talk to others about how important Sam in his life, for instance, what ( ... )

I don't think the fallen angels will be human. They lost their wings and can't get back home, but I think they'll keep some powers, like Lucifer did. Luci still had his powers. Probably not his wings.

They'll probably be "cut off" like S5 Cas and slowly losing powers. ut another thing - Heaven has ennough souls that they powered the whole Host. Now Metatron can use all that power. He's going to be crazy strong. Maybe stronger than an archangel (I think he was one, but in name only - he got the title when God picked him, but not the extra power).

Anyway, getting Luci and Michael out to kick his ass would be a good idea.
