I'm with you on wondering how much of the fact that Castiel absorbed monster souls affected him in the last moments of the episode.

And I've already said how I thought Dean being able to leave Sam in the panic room spoke volumes of how much Dean has come to accept that Sam has his own strength, which was where Dean was at the point in Swan Song when he realized it was Sam's decision to fight Lucifer, not Dean's place to give or withhold permission.

And Sam saying he had to absorb his hell memories because he couldn't leave his brother out there alone? That was the payoff line for everything between them since season 4, IMO!

I really enjoy your analyses of the eps and overall season. I felt really bad for Castiel when he begged God to give him some sign, and when he struggled on, essentially to save the winchesters specifically and humanity in general, with no one, particularly not Dean, even being willing to listen to why he was doing what he was doing. Not sure he really had a lot of choices other than to let the Apocalypse happen or let Crowley destroy the Winchesters, and that was emphatically not an option in Castiel's mind ( ... )

chiming in here with two things:

1 -- I also laughed at Castiel. !
2 -- If you are looking for Jesus, my best guess is Joshua, the Gardener. (Jesus's given name in his own day would've been the Aramaic version of Joshua.)

I rarely comment, but I always read your meta. Your take on the episodes is very close, and your meta is helpful for me to figure why I felt certain things about and episode.

I'm so thankful to find someone doing recaps that has some enthusiasm...had to quit Television Without Pity. I was beginning to think I was the only one who liked this season. There were some low points and some high points, and it was a bit slow starting, but I really do think this season was put together very well.

Thanks again for your meta. I really enjoy them. Sorry I don't comment more often!

Yup loved your meta just as much as I knew I would. I agree that this seems unfinished just as every finale (except 5.22) has seemed to be. Like you, I can hardly wait for September and season 7. I loved the different Sams and big brother Dean and conflicted Cas, and Cas as God left me remembering his big brother Lucifer. But it does seem that a lot of terrible things were done by Cas even before he ingested a million nukes - killing Rachael, Balthazar, trying to get Dean to leave Sam's soul in the cage perhaps as a way of hiding his own mistake, toppling Sam's wall. Unlike season 4 Sam who was pretty much high on demon blood towards the end and therefore predisposed towards things like draining the nurse dry (even if he still had qualms about it), Cas was till the end free of all intoxicants except his own sense of pride and righteousness. I agree that season 7 is likely to redeem him but I'm not sure how tarnished an angel can get without being ultimately killed or falling ( ... )

I know I haven't been dropping by lately, but I wanted to see what you thought about Castiel's transformation. I think Castiel's been taken over by the power of the souls. I certainly don't think he intended to be the God. This rather weird power play is the cost of using the souls as power. I don't believe they were intended to be used in that way, and so the cost of doing so must be high.
