Here's my contribution to Day 3 of the 42 Days of Metallicar countdown. One event overshadowed every other one for me in 1969 ...

I am glad they had to get rid of the Impala for a happy reason. Yay!

We have "ghost crabs" on the Maryland eastern shore that are
super adorable. The ones you are talking about must be scarier!
Last weekend I watched them peeping in and out of their holes until I was threatened by a sunburn!

I'm sorry you had to take refuge at a hotel. I hope it is comfortable. Since we will be gone for a week, I would offer you our house but it would probably not be convenient to your work. Also, we have rabbits!

The hotel was fine. I just wish I hadn't come back today, because things were not as done as they were supposed to be, and boy, do I ever have a headache ... Sigh. Why did I decide to do this, again?

The crabs at Galveston were tiny little things, not really scary at all - just very numerous, and after having seen the BIG one on the roof of the crab shack, we kids were pretty freaked out!

Rabbits?! Did you ever scare Joss Whedon with them? (I'll never forget the demon Anya freaking out about bunnies in the musical episode ... *grin*)

Thank you! Watching all the moon mission coverage is something I will never forget. The images were snowy and indistinct (and black and white!), and no one had ever done this stuff before. The ascent stage on the LM had never been tested, so we weren't even entirely sure that the astronauts would be able to launch back up off the moon to rejoin the command module. And the landing really was a nail-biter, because they didn't come down precisely where they intended, and when Armstrong looked out, he saw the landing field strewn with rocks that would have made it impossible to set down four-square, which they needed to do. He hand-flew the LM to a clear spot, but it took every ounce of fuel they had. That wasn't apparent to outsiders at the time - NASA was always very good at downplaying risk - but the folks in the know were really sweating that mission!

This for the history review,professor.. Yeah '69 was the Moon Walk and the Mets!! Having Clarence and Rosa laying on the trunk looking at the moon, gave the Impala eyes too.

I'd never have noticed the Mets ... not being sports-minded!

I love tying the car in to whatever's going on. She really is a character all her own. :)

LOL...loved poor Alice's reaction to the crabs and the description of the moon landing sent shivers up my spine. I'm glad they loved the Impala!

Alice's reaction to the crabs was pretty much mine, although all three of us girls reacted the same way! All those holes were just a bit much, after we'd seen the big one on the roof of the crab shack!

Who wouldn't love the Impala? *grin*
