I have to present and critique an activist website in my Resistance and Subversion on the Internet course on Friday. I'm not sure what site I'm going to do. Does anyone know of any social change sites that make innovative/interesting use of the web?

I decided to cop out and do an easy site for mine.... but if you want something more challenging, here's an idea:

Do Livejournal.

Sure, the purpose of the site isnt social change, but the effect could be. It'd be more challenging/interesting than the boring sites that we've seen so far. You could talk about the community aspect. The way that different individuals/communities offer critiques to news, commercialism, blah blah blah. i dunno, just an idea.

Yeah, in the board room. Are you coming to see Hilary Wainwright?

not sure if this is along the lines you are interested in but www.unamerican.com is a pretty cool site. At least last time I looked. It is sort of a site that is trying to change perspective while selling you stickers and 'revolutionary' t-shirts and posters.

Hope that helps a bit.

yah greg, i will be there to see Hilary Wainright. i'm pretty excited, and I can dream about taking the class that didn't conflict with my PPA requirement.

I swear its a conspiracy that class conflicts with my PPA requirement.

why not...AMBER LYNN
cause she's fun, bouncy, and full of new new new ideas that stress
societal norms. ooh. but she can also be dangerous. ooh.

no. i'm absolutely serious. you can omit the page of grainy porn pics if you wish.. but that to me CRIES OUT "HEY! THIS IS THE INTERNET! HOME OF PORNOGRAPHY!" doesn't it? It's all about context.
