El Laberinto del Fauno

Last night I had my "date" with swingbean and we did our usual dinner at The Outback and then went and saw Pan's Labyrinth. I was really excited to finally see this visually amazing movie and was impressed with it. I enjoyed the fairytale mixed in with the historical and just really enjoyed watching the story develop. It's the history of the satyrs.
Satyr=faun in Italian, which is also a twisted up history. Also Pan's buddies are the satyrs.
"Satyrs acquired their goat aspect through later conflation with the Roman Faunus, a carefree nature spirit of similar temperament. Hence satyrs are most commonly described as having the upper half of a man and the lower half of a goat."

"In Roman mythology, fauns are place-spirits (genii) of untamed woodland. Romans connected their fauns with the Greek satyrs, wild and orgiastic drunken followers of Dionysus. However, fauns and satyrs were originally quite different creatures. Both have horns and both resemble goats below the waist, humans above; but originally satyrs had human feet, fauns goatlike hooves. The Romans also had a god named Faunus and a goddess Fauna, who, like the fauns, were goat-people."
