After much encouragement from
faeriquene,
apple4b, and
barbossa_love, I have decided to post these three additional responses to the 'What if...' prompt.
These three drabbles all take place during AWE. The first one takes place not long after my second ever fic Stayin' Warm (which was, coincidentally a response to the last prompt); the second right after we find out Lizzy's father is dead, and the third on the eve of the maelstrom battle. (I guess one could call them 'missing scenes'...) Also, the third drabble is basically Forbidden from Barbossa's POV and a continuation. You all can thank
barbossamonkey for the plotbunny that inspired these drabbles, by the way. *mutters* And my foot still hurts... lol.
And without further ado, I give you the What If Drabbles:
Drabble 1: Change
He looked over at Elizabeth and their eyes met and something passed between them. That day, in the middle of an icy nowhere, things between the two of them had changed. He turned away and went down to the hold, thinking, what if he acted upon his feelings...his desire?

Drabble 2: Comfort Then Worry
They'd retrieved Jack and had begun the journey back to the land of the living. After encountering the spirit of the dead governor, everyone had gone to bed but he found that sleep would not come and stepped out onto the deck. He found her there, alone, still in shock from the loss of her father. She was leaning against the rail, eyes cast down to the still, black waters below. He stood next to her; she didn't look up. But after a few minutes of companionable silence, she did. Their gazes locked and a tear slid down her cheek, falling onto the rail. His eyes softened and he placed a comforting hand on her shoulder.
"T'will be all right," he said softly before squeezing her shoulder and giving her a small smile then returning to his cabin.
After he'd gone, her hand went up to where his hand had rested upon her shoulder...it was still warm. Her lips quirked at the memory, 'It's still warm.' The she frowned as she thought about the looming threat of the EITC and the convening of the Brethren Court to decide what to do about said threat. Would it be all right? What if...it wasn't?

Drabble 3: Forbidden No Longer...
He stumbled upon her in the hold on the eve of the battle, in what could be called 'lounge wear', her hand reaching for one of his beloved apples from the bushel they'd brought onboard. She hadn't noticed him and he watched as she brought the fruit up to her nose and inhaled its divine scent, her eyes closed in pleasure.
She was about to take a bite when her eyes opened and immediately locked with his. He pointedly looked at the apple then back at her as if encouraging her to take a bite. Her eyes flashed to the fruit and then her gaze never left his as her mouth closed over the fruit and she took a large bite, the sound of her teeth piercing the flesh making a satisfying crunch. Her eyes closed as she chewed, savoring the taste of the apple.
A drop of juice caught on her lip before sliding down her jaw and hanging precariously, ready to drip onto her slightly exposed cleavage. The sight made him swallow thickly and he couldn't stop himself from taking several quick strides toward her and capturing that drop of juice with his tongue before covering her mouth with his own. His arms wrapped around her holding her to him and she surprised him by returning his kiss. And as her arms encircled his neck, the apple dropped to the floor of the hold and it rolled away, forgotten, along with the impending confrontation.
Here was the answer to her question of what if.
