Huntress, this is Oracle.
If those were the very last words I would ever hear ... yes, I'd die happy. I wouldn't be alone, my greatest fear, dying alone. Dying in the desert with no one for hundreds of miles, buzzards and canines chewing my bones ... sure, its great for them but what about me? I don't want to be chewed. Dying on an island in the middle of no where ... well, as long as Oracle was there I wouldn't be alone.
In my ear, in my hands, in my head. Inside me. Settled in my heart. Resting on my soul.
Huntress, do you read me?
So commanding, so sexy and dominating. So ... Oracle-y but still with a touch of Barbara.
Come on Huntress, I don't have all night.
Irritated ... still sexy.
"Yes Oracle, I read you."
"Good. Are you ready?"
"Go ahead."
"Ok, Canary will have chocolate fudge riple, and a small pint of raspberry gnache. Jeeves wants double mint with a scoup of chocolate. And I'll have ... "
"Cherry garcia with extra cream and those little plastic cherries and the paper umbrellas you love so much?"
"Well .... yes."
"Gotcha. Ice cream express is leaving the station."
"Don't forget hot fudge!"
"Of course not Oracle. All the better to lick off of you."
"What was that?"
"Nothing. Be home soon."
She isn't oblivious. I've heard her talking to herself when she thinks I'm unconcious, or asleep. She wants me bad. I want her bad. If only we could get past the uncomfortable 'I've heard you talking to yourself' phase of the relationship and the even more uncomfortable phase of 'I'm sorry I had a part in getting your boyfriend killed'.
Apologies aren't my thing.
But maybe this once ...
"Huntress, this is Oracle. There's a break and enter in progress on the corner of Wayne and Fifth, Andersons Jewels."
"I'm on it."
"Huntress ... don't let my ice cream melt."
I don't want ... I really want to laugh at her.
"Do Jewellery stores have freezers?"
Maybe we'll walk past the uncomfortable phases next week.
