I don't remember when it came out, but MacLeod's LEARNING THE WORLD was good third person. Omni, with different chapters from different locations (colonist ship and the aliens whose world it was approaching) and many different PV characters in both places. I suppose the books had the same distribution structure as a Discworld novel, but without the heavy narrator/editorial voice. Good old plain third: interesting stuff and plot shown from different viewpoints of different characters within it. Refreshing.

I really enjoyed "The Emperor's Edge" by Lindsay Buroker. The story is a bit silly, but if you relax and go with the flow it's an awful lot of fun.

Free books are good! (I got it free for my Kindle app.)

Btw, if you want my slightly more detailed thoughts on it, I reviewed it on Goodreads.

Are you only looking for novels, or are story collections fair game?

Would you believe I've not read that yet? SO LITTLE TIME, SO MANY BOOKS.

You are not to be shunned! When I do someday get around to that post, yours is one I'll hold up as a good example.

It's old and you've probably read it, but "The High House" by James Stoddard, one of my favourite fantasy books.
