Something about my mother that frustrates the hell out of me is that she doesn't get things done. She knows that X or Y needs doing, and perhaps needs doing NOW, before some time limit runs out, and yet she doesn't do it

I think the whole not doing important things bit has to do with how busy our lives are and how tired we tend to be when we do have the time. I felt somewhat virtuous that I talked to the folks at Home Depot about my basement floor yesterday. OTOH, I had wanted to talk to my handyman/contractor about it, but never got around to it.
Just FYI, if you have Home Depot near you, they have a proprietary flooring material that is made from recycled rubber and mimics tile, stone, or wood in a wide variety of colors/textures. It's a floating floor, but 100% waterproof and recommended for damp areas (such as kitchens, basements, and bathrooms). It's apparently very easy to install as well. It's what I'm getting for my basement.
I am the same, apart from the bills where I have a system. It also annoys me to no end... I don't know where I have it from, though, since neither of my parents seem to be afflicted.
It does. I managed to get my taxes in early this year by one day because I had someone sitting with me who talked me down when I panicked too much. I try to do one uncomfortable thing a day; but there are times when I just cannot keep up.
And now I shall put the laundry into the washing machine so that tomorrow, once I've had my tea and toast, I can plug in the washing machine.
