So you may have heard that there's a bit of a storm coming next week. Normally my reaction to the news programs' collective OMG ARMAGEDDON sensationalism would be "Bitch, please ( Read more... )

Hmm. A sticky situation! I think it'll be okay. The manager will understand about the hurricane and the movers and she'll cut you a break. With any luck, the power might go out and she won't even be able to come in and never even KNOW that you are late! Don't stress. A year from now, it'll just be a funny story.

I just wish I could talk to her TODAY. It would be so much better to be able to say, "Look, can I just move on the 6th and that's that?" and then I could get on with rescheduling things.

But as it stands, I have to wait until Monday before I know what's up. I don't have any food in the house because I don't want to have lots of food to throw away or have to cart to the house. BUT of course with a hurricane coming, I should have food in the house!

Do I pack my kitchen and other essentials this weekend, as I normally would if I thought Tuesday was going to be normal moving day? Or do I hold off and end up packing everything on Monday night?

Ugh.

If it goes poorly with the movers and the management, I'd be happy to (help) move furniture or other heavy objects into a UHaul or something on Wednesday.

I definitely appreciate the offer, though I will try very hard to not need the help!

I'm confident it will work out with management. I just wish I didn't have to wait until Monday to be 100% sure.

The people who move often don't move much, I've found. They dump their old furniture and buy new, don't own books. Doesn't take much to move clothes and a few kitchen gadgets and a basket of bathroom bumf.

I guess not. I don't think of myself as owning a lot of stuff, but then when I have to pack it, I realize HOLY CRAP I HAVE A LOT OF STUFF.

I agree with malkatsheva. Also, you can always toss food; it's wasteful, but it's better than starving through a storm.

The plan today is to buy sandwich fixings, and probably to hit DiBruno for cured meats and cheeses, which will last through to Tuesday and beyond if needed.

Yeesh. Fingers crossed the weather will not be as bad as they say it may be and you can get moved in safely.
