I actually used it a million years ago in a high school paper. The teacher was trying to encourage us to use more creative descriptions of people. I think I used it to describe the Knight in Canterbury Tales, because he was very rough and coarse in appearance, but noble and beautiful inside.
I also compared the Pardoner (who was rather the opposite of the Knight) to rhubarb, because that has beautiful leaves that will kill you if you eat them (though you can safely enjoy the stalks.)
