sksperry has a discussion of writer's block here.

I find writing fiction very difficult. I am in awe of writers who can come up with 1000+ words any day, much less every day. When I'm on, I can do 1000 words in a little over an hour, but...

I find the hardest part is getting started, and making it a routine. Once I've been doing it for three or four days, I'm good. It comes easy after that. The problem is it only takes a break of as little as two days to throw a wrench into the process and make it difficult again. Two days and it's like pulling teeth. Grrrrr.

Routine helps, but it doesn't make the writing any easier. It just makes the discomfort more tolerable, because I get used to it. The aversion factor becomes less, but the words don't come any more readily.

Couldn't have written it better myself. I wish I was one of those writers who love writing and can get down 3000 words in each session.

This happens to me much of the time. The flood of words thing is rare and usually only near the end. It's as if I need to have a huge weight of momentum behind me before the brakes come fully off.

Let the writing become a conversation - give yourself permission to be telling your story to an imaginary other
