I think it's sinful that today is August 6 and the US barely acknowledges the anniversary of the Hiroshima bomb. I only remembered because BBC online's "The Day In Pictures" showed one of a woman at the memorial in Japan

My feelings on this are mixed. A day of remembrance about the bombing of Hiroshima -- a day of remembrance about anything when done by the instigator nation -- can easily come off as celebrating it.
For that matter, I'm not really sure how you could communicate (especially to the people who most need the reminder) that the point is not celebration but consideration. For many, those bombings were not (and still are not) a "high price" to be paid for war, because they feel them to be justified response to foreign aggression.
