I can't stop thinking about...

Nov 30, 2013 02:25

I'm a little wary of saying this, and certainly wary of how I say this, but I feel really sorry for all the ex-Lostprophets members who aren't Ian Watkins. I mean, they made five radio-friendly albums and could have expected royalties from record sales and radio plays for years to come.

Trigger warning: child abuse. )

triggery stuff, music

I'm sorry this is hitting you hard, and I agree it's hard for his bandmates: the rational mind may see that they did nothing wrong, but the less-rational conscious one is going to be thinking "didn't I heard something weird about him?" or "I know you're innocent, but I don't want to see news stories about my new band that say 'including so-and-so, formerly of Lostprophets.'"

I sort of know how you feel. You probably know the Love I have for Christmas cheese so at this time of year it becomes noticeable that I now have to feel obliged to skip one of my favourite Christmas numbers when it gets dragged up on an old compilation or from the depths of my MP3 collection in case somebody hears me listening to it on the street outside the shop.I also worry for what classic songs may be lost from Christmas Top Of The Pops because footage of various DJs are to irremovably intertwined with them. It's strange that this is what turns my disgust at some people in to something approaching anger (As close as I ever get.

Mmm, yes.

Well, I assume in this day and age, our computer technology's good enough that we could fairly happily airbrush out Pervy DJ and replace him with a computer-generated avatar. Or if it isn't now, it soon will be. But that rather requires finding out exactly who all the Pervy DJs are :/

Last month I posted about some of the music I listen to, including the band "Chameleon Circuit" (inspired by Doctor Who). Looking at their Twitter account, one of the original members has left: they didn't say why, but it correlates to him allegedly performing a non-consensual sex act on a fan behind his girlfriend's back. However, I still enjoy the music that he made as part of the group.

In the case of Lostprophets, I don't think I've ever heard any of their songs, and this hasn't motivated me to seek them out. However, the music is still be available through iTunes/YouTube/etc. so some people may keep buying it.

Yes, it's awful when it's not someone you know, but when it is, at least part of them will be thinking "Why didn't we realise he was up to no good?" because they worked with him, they might now be able to see the signs they missed before...

There's an interesting article here from one of his former friends, asking precisely that question:

Thanks for the link. It's a really good article.

I was reading the band's official statement (warning, involves Facebook) and for every maybe 8 or 9 positive messages there's one really negative, nasty one. It reinforces what I was saying - his friends almost certainly had no clue, but now they're being tarred with the same brush.
