insane, maybe... brilliant, yes! *grin*
i would fasure enjoy a BSL social and would try to attend, especially if you make it 'sign only' - that can still include those who are intrested/learning and want to ask others questions, but the asking will have to be in sign *grin*
things to make it good, hmmm? it will be good by simply happening, imo, though i think i know what you mean about making sure it's good. will think on that. i guess some of that is interesting ways to get people to interact... while you're organising a 'social' i think some people may still expect you to take some lead, so a starting somehting might be good to have.

and so much good luck in your exam on 25th - i hope it goes well for you *beam*

I'll provide pen and paper for those who are really stuck, but will encourage people to ask [SIGN fingerspelly WHAT?] rather than pen and papering for the entire time. It is surprising how much you can learn by that method.

I've proposed a workshop as introduction to sign language and deaf awareness for an evening session, which will cover various things including some fingerspelling practice and introduction and teaching of some useful vocabulary signs. This way newbies should be warmed up before the social, and those who don't want to sit through A-B-C can skip that and come along to the social which I hope will be in the same room.

I'll no doubt find out exact workshop times at BiCon itself, the organisers know my preferences and justifications for those preferences. I'm not going to worry about attendance as sign is always overattended. The social will either work really well, or it won't. I suspect once we get going it'll self-propagate with people signing all throughout the weekend.
