Listening to Snog's Lies Inc. album for the first time in a long while. And I've noticed a few sampled bits that are the same bits (rather famously) sampled by Pop Will Eat Itself on various songs ( Read more... )

Aah, who released their album first?

Sampling, these days, involves massive license agreements that probably exceed the gross sales of Lies Inc.

Poppies. :)

Yeah... it raises an odd lil' question though, if someone uses a sample so famously that it becomes entrenched in people's minds as inseperable from that song and that act, is another act really serving themselves well in attempting to use it afterwards?

I mean - of course they are. Power to their elbow and all that acid jazz. :) But I'm surprising myself by even pondering such thoughts, I guess. Did I mention I'm not well? :D

That era, betwixt the Poppies and Snog, oft held several works as "important", things like Warriors and Bladerunner and such.

I recall an article (or series thereof) in Industrial Nation magazine about samples and their sources.

I have no idea if Snog was wholesale ripping off earlier PWEI or not, because the Popies were so much more cut'n'paste than Snog, but I shouldn't be surprised.

*snuggles* (I'm not contagious anymore. Honest.)

Thanks, gorgeous. :)
