University of Toronto...? Why? x_X Well, not that it's bad, it's a good school.. but Toronto winters are inhuman. UVic is much nicer (weather wise), though the school isn't as well known as UofT.
I do have to warn you, I don't know about other universities, but the 2 around here (UBC and SFU) don't have great pay for grad students...
I got UVic from a college book in my library. It seemed like a good fit. Plus I can study creative Writing there too, and if I decide to do my Doctorate, so much more the better. I think I can get decent money from there too, so that is a plus.
Well, I can say that Victoria is a gorgeous city, with very mild weather. So if you decide to pursue grad studies there, it's a really great city to be in. It can be a bit expensive too, but anything on the west coast here is (mind you, Toronto is also very expensive to live in), but if you have the funding, go for it. (And hey, if you go to Victoria, you can visit me - for anime conventions - and I can visit you! lol, we'd be a couple hours away.)
I'm at UBC. Honestly, it's not that bad of a school. It's typical research-driven uni.. big on legacy building, etc... horrible undergrad programs due to all the money going to new buildings, etc. It's a large research university. And I whine and complain about UBC stupidity a lot, but I dunno, I'm thinking that other uni's also probably have similar problems.
I'd have to look up the area and see where I'd be. I find more people live on the West Coast than I used to know. Maybe it couldn't hurt to look.
We have a school near me like UBC. Very very research and legacy driven too. But like no undergrad housing (two small dorms) and just recently got a football team. A lot of local students go there (because it's close to home- more like a commuter school), but I was never really sold on it, even though they have a Creative Writing program. I haven't heard the best about their Liberal Arts school, quite frankly. One of the main reasons I am avoiding even applying there.
