She's come halfway around the world to be standing at this door again, and somehow it still seems she has so very far to go.

Kim takes a deep breath, and knocks.

Within thirty seconds, the door opens to reveal Dave + an enormous a grin - which fades almost immediately once he catches sight of her face, leaving just Dave, puzzled and concerned.

"Come on in - hey, what's wrong?"

Kim laughs, a little ruefully.

"I really can't hide anything from you, can I?"

"To be honest, your poker face could use some work," Dave says, standing aside so she can take first choice of the seats in the living room.

"Uh - were you trying to?"

"Not really," she hedges. "I just thought I'd build up to it with other things first--"

She smiles, and for all that there's still a faint line creasing her brow, for all that there's still worry in the clear gray eyes, oh, her smile is real.
