You always write McCoy so beautifully and this is no exception. I love your take on his early relationship with Joceyln and how the ending is left rather open.

I particularly like this line:
He's young and full of the sort of confidence people only have when they're young, a confidence that he will have lost in a few years when the same girl smiling at him now strips him of everything he's ever loved or owned.

Oh, thank you!

That's a favourite line of mine too ;)

I'm curious what you think began his personality change. Clearly his father's death, and probably the stress of school, a spouse and a child, but it seems you kind of intimated it started sooner than that. Responsibility?

I like this a lot. McCoy rings true and as much as I love this character, I always find it impossible to believe the fault for the divorce all sits on Jocelyn. She might have taken him for everything but I always feel he gave her more than one good reason to do so (which isn't saying it's right!).

His life turned out nothing like he expected but for all that I think McCoy found a home for those years. Thank you for a lovely story!

I was thinking the reponsibility, stress, and just growing up, really, losing his care-free youthfulness.

I don't like it when she's shown as a cold-hearted bitch who divorced him just because. There's got to be some reason it went wrong that's down to the both of them. And I love McCoy, but like you said, he's got to have given her some reason to divorce him.

Thank you for commenting!

Thank you. I think there needs to be some more McCoy/Jocelyn out there. I want fic where it's not just Jocelyn being a bitch and McCoy being the poor little victim.

Exactly. McCoy has his flaws, and if he didn't, he just wouldn't be human, and I wouldn't like him as much as I do. And I agree about him being one of those people who can insult their family/ex-wife/whatever but won't let anyone else. And he wouldn't have loved her if she was a bitch right from the start, I don't think.

Lovely fic. I particularly enjoyed the early scenes with Jocelyn -- very romantic, but not saccharine. Your Bones was believable too.
