I do not think I have ever been so embarrassed.
I have burned the daalYou see, my dormitory has a Western-style kitchen attached to it, and students are permitted to cook a little. I misunderstood the dials and the heat was on too far. I became distracted, and the water burned away. It burned the lentils, and there was smoke . . . The detector

¡Dios mío!
I hope you are all right! Have you tried applying some egg yolk to your fingers? You'll feel a lot better. Aloe Vera (Sábila) works wonders too, but I have no idea if it's available in Japan.
Don't be embarrassed, at least you know a little bit about cooking. I can barely heat my baby nephew's milk bottle. I need cooking lessons badly!
Daal sounds delicioso, by the way! *stomach rumbles* I hope you feel confident to try it again very soon!

BTW, I've heard that India's traditional food is very spicy. Is it true?
I love spicy food for obvious reasons!
But how do you do prepare it? Do you use chili peppers? Or just lot's of spices?

I have not tried egg yolk, though I have a little lotion with aloe. o.o I would not have thought of egg yolk, thank you!
Cooking takes very much practice. Unfortunately I do not have nearly the time to practice that my mother would like. ^^; She is the sort of person who believes that everyone should or must know how to cook -- particularly her daughter. I will not be telling her of this incident. ^^;;
I do not know very much about Mexico. The food there is also very spicy? (Yes, in India it is too!) Chili pepper spice we use very much. Also rai, jeera (I am sorry, but I do not know the words!) various leaves, cinnamon, and many others. Spices, after all, were something that the Western world seemed to want very much from us, making their routes of trade. We have very many of them!
If Mexican food is also spicy, I would like it too, I think. :)

My mom's like that too. She's a great cook and because I'm her only daughter, she says I should inherit her recipes.
Maybe when I go visit her at Chiapas on Semana Santa (holidays) she'll give me a lesson or two?
Mexican food is very spicy. WE don't use many spices (except for mole, a sauce made with chilli peppers, cinnamon, spices and even chocolate!), but lot's of peppers. An corn, of course.
I'm pretty sure you'd like it :). And you'd be one of the few ones who wouldn't act like a wuss and ask for water after the first bite :D.
