No, no, no, no, no. /Bangs head against the wall repeatedly. I'm sorry but as a proud 75 Sam myself I have to completely agree with you on this, the guy is just a retard. The only piece of Hachiman gear that should be worn full time is the hands, and that is only if you can make a 6 hit set up work. It's not like average Sam gear is that expensive, hell a good portion of it can be free if you want to spend some time camping nms or doing assaults.
As for gear vs skill, I have my own take on it. To me it means an averagely geared player with good skill can do above average things, while a low skill player with awesome gear will barely be average (if that). Bad gear = bad skill in my experience so those players are screwed both ways. If you can't be bothered to get somewhat decent gear for the job then you can't be bothered to learn how to play it properly imo.
