2011: Band List

Jan 25, 2011 12:42

It's bandombigbang time again! Hurray! \o/

Before we start posting the FAQ and the sign-up posts and all of the exciting, wordy stuff we like to throw at you in January, it's time for our annual 'which bands are part of bandom big bang' post.

At the moment, our list for bandombigbang 2011 looks like this:

My Chemical Romance, Fall Out Boy, Panic! At The Disco, The Young Veins, The Academy Is..., Cobra Starship, The Hush Sound, Gym Class Heroes, The Used, Empires, The All-American Rejects, The Cab, Hey Monday, Ashlee Simpson, and The Like.

We know that some of these bands don't exist anymore, but we also know that people still want to write about the original line-ups. So go ahead! But if you want to write about new line-ups, and it is a band created by someone who used to be in a core bandom band, then it is likely we will accept it. This means the list expands to include bands like Gold Motel, Black Cards, Stamps The Band, The Damned Things, The Patrick Stump Band, and The Jon Walker Solo Project. If you have a query about the story you want to write, then email bandombigbang@gmail.com and we will get back to you.

The final, confirmed band list will go up with the FAQ and the sign up posts later in the week.

However, occasionally we miss bands through oversight, and not through intention, so here is an opportunity for you to let us know if you think we've missed anyone off the list. If there's a band missing from this list that you think is connected enough to bandom and has enough fandom presence and interest for bandombigbang, please let us know, and we'll take it into consideration. If you think a band shouldn't be on this list, let us know that, too. If your band is too unconnected or too obscure and it doesn't make the FAQ post, please don't despair; remember that it's still okay to include them as a secondary focus or pairing in your story, and that we'll still be open for pairing-specific crossover questions and further discussion through email at bandombigbang@gmail.com.

Please remember: We are not trying to define bandom, merely to create a list of bands eligible for this year's bandombigbang. Because this is an exchange that requires familiarity from mixers/artists, we want to make sure that - even if someone should end up with a band they're not exceedingly familiar with - there's at least a big enough fandom presence, enough picspams and primers and existing stories to give them a reasonably quick and easy way to make themselves familiar with it. Connections to bandom are crucial, but fandom presence is just as important.

EDIT: THIS POST IS NOW CLOSED. The official band list, along with the revised FAQ and sign up posts will go up soon. Thank you for all your discussion points and comments.
