Awesomely Awful or Awfully Awesome Horror Movies

Sep 17, 2007 15:39

So I had someone ask me just recently what would be some good horror movies to get together and watch/MST/mock some night soon... he started with the suggestion of Hollow Man.  Now for me this is a question which requires some serious pondering, especially as he gave me no genre limitations... I have the beginnings of a list here, ranging from " ( Read more... )

mst, movies, mocking

Near Dark
Leviathan
Deep Star Six
Hellraiser series
The Cube

Speaking of Hollow Man, you so need to play Bioshock. I'll try not to spoil it any further, but damn!

any of the Friday the 13th movies
Nightmare on Elm Street movies
Gremlins
Hard Rock Zombies
House of 1000 Corpses (a B tribute to B movies!)
Pet Sematary

Hrm.... either way good or bad you can still have fun with these!

I figured the Freddy and Jason stuff would be too overexposed, plus the "scream" movies already deconstructed those for the most part. Same with Halloween, though I love me some John Carpenter movies. Pet Semetary is excellent... but I dunno, I think if I was gonna make fun of a Steven King movie I'd have to go with Maximum Overdrive first. Hard Rock Zombies sounds interesting, why haven't I heard of that?

I saw it once. A friend had it on VHS (as I doubt it will ever make it to DVD). It is horrible! I laughed my way through it, the "band" pretended to play the instruments and did a horrible job at faking it.

It is worth the laugh but I suggest alcohol be involved cause it hurt to watch it sober.

circa 198? when the big hair bands were in full force. No rememberal people or names, bad effects, bad faking playing and lip singing...... classic "D" movie!

Dracula 2000 is an excellent choice. Phantoms, I haven't seen, though I've heard Affleck was the bomb in it. And... Moonraker? Like the James Bond movie? Is that horror?

The movie you're thinking of was "Runaway" with Tom Selleck (and yes, co-starring Gene Simmons). It was actually directed by Michael "Writer of Jurassic Park" Crichton! Actually that should probably be "writer of Congo and Sphere"...
And you're talking about Brainscan with Eddie Furlong? I don't think I ever saw that one but from what I can dig up online, it sounds mock-tabulous.

I'm going to say that any movie with Vincent Price should not be mocked. No matter how awful those movies are, the guy really gave it his all, and usually carried the picture. The Abominable Dr. Phibes, as bad as it is... can't go then ( ... )

I dunno, I have the feeling Vincent had enough of a sense of humor he would have joined in on the mocking.

I did Idle Hands at a movie night once and it kind of fell flat. Whether it was not bad enough, or trying too hard to be funny, I dunno. It did have Seth Green though. And the new War of the Worlds? I don't even know that that one needs a commentary, it pretty much mocks itself. Or I should say Tom Cruise does.

And if you're going with the vampire comedies, why not throw in Once Bitten?

I apparently need to see this Japanese movie, "Wild Zero" too... it's about a Japanese rockabilly band called "Guitar Wolf" fighting zombies and ufo's. That's got to be the raddest concept I've ever heard.
