There was something different about him; it wasn’t just the way he walked into the bar, an air of superiority around him as he shyly pushed past the regular brutes and thugs to get to the bar. It wasn’t the way he talked, soft-spoken but still demanding as he asked her what she recommended he drank. It definitely wasn’t the way he drank, delicately cradling the cup and pressing the rim to his lips before sputtering out the strong liquid after only a sip.

It was something in his eyes. Something she hadn’t seen in years; compassion, softness, sincerity, curiosity. It was something in the way his face lit up when he asked her about her tattoo and the way he complimented her figure.

He was a good man. Far too good for her.
