There's this 3D modeling and animation package called messiahStudio made by a company called pmG. It was described by my coworkers as 'slightly odd but very artist-friendly'. (You'll need a separate application to create your meshes, though.)

It has made some slight fame as the tool of choice of one Joeri Christiaen who has made some very amusing

Well, the cause here is getting me some cheap software. Which isn't much of a cause, really.

Unless you're really interested in slightly obscure but professional-level 3D animation software for a very affordable price, I wouldn't bother. ^^

Actually I have a couple of people that might want something like that.. I was thinking of gifts for them!:)

Their website doesn't give absolute numbers, sadly. It also doesn't list a cut-off date.

However, as you can see, the bar is almost full. Given the rate at which it's been filling and the fact that my own individual purchase didn't make it move visibly, I'm guessing they still need a few hundred sales for the deal to go through.
