Kefka wants the girls, and possibly Leo too. He knows we know this. So protecting them is going to focus his attention somewhere else if he can't get to them, and I'd rather him have a moving target. [Specifically, himself.]

I'm going to try and get myself a way to get a real quick escape, and something that'll turn me invisible. That way I can spy on him a lot more safely and show up at random times on my own; hopefully he'll notice this and try and go for me when he can't get to anyone else. This is a no-go, though, if I can't get any magical help.
