Summary: In which Orlando knows, once and for all.

pardon me while I grammarwhore. *cough*

"He lied sluggishly in bed, eating, sleeping, and thinking."

Should be he lay, or even laid. Lied implies that he was in bed, uttering untruths;)

But apart from that minor nitpickiness, it's nice. Once again, your writing has a nice feel to it, that I can't describe. But I do like it:)

I loved Dr. Bean's hesitation at the operating table-- really great suspense.

The tickle in the foot is a nice touch. Later someone would have to test Orlando for Babinski's sign-- in adults you want the toes to curl in when something pointed is dragged down the sole of the foot-- if the toes flare up, as they do in an infant to age 2, then you have a problem. I only mention it because while the directions are for a "pointed instrument" many nurses (and I'm guessing doctors, too, if they're as hands on as Bean) will use their thumbnail instead. Ah, human touch.

Looking forward to more.
