Uhura was a lot of things, but an idiot wasn’t one of them. Despite the fact their current “passenger” was a Romulan and a would-be enemy, the captain had told the crew to treat her as a guest; and had she not been an enemy, Uhura thought they would’ve gotten along famously. The commander, who’d refused to divulge her name, was obviously very brilliant and very beautiful. She was also very blinded by their Vulcan-turned-Don Juan DeMarco.

It’d been Kirk’s orders to keep her ears out for whatever the commander might say while on the Enterprise. He hadn’t let Uhura equip them with com devices when they’d stolen aboard the Romulan vessel because that would’ve undermined the “Kirk’s Gone Crazy” defense. Spock had tried to reassure her and had reminded her to play her part of ignorance; for if she didn’t sell it, no one on the bridge would believe Kirk had genuinely jumped off the deep end.

“Surprised you aren’t telling McCoy,” she’d muttered during their private debriefing. “He always knows everything.”

“If anyone needed to be kept in the dark, it’s Bones,” Kirk had said on a chuckle. “He’d throw us all under psych evals if he’d gotten wind!”

“Besides, as chief communications officer, you are privy to private information a starship’s chief medical officer may not need to know. This is one of those instances,” Spock had said gravely.

But Uhura had wished she’d known Spock would have to heavily flirt with another woman!

Is this how he feels when I’m with Len?

Uhura shook her head even as her eyes narrowed at the sight before her. Most of the people in the gym had created a crescent moon around two people sparring, one with a lirpa, the other with an ahn-wooh. She wondered if anyone saw the heady glint in the ahn-wooh-wielder’s eyes, the green flush to the skin, the tight, regulation T-shirt that lewdly displayed hardened nipples and the tight, short regulation shorts that left very little to the imagination. Or could anyone see the admiration and intrigue in the lirpa-wielder’s eyes, the streaks of green and black hair peeking through another, yet tattered, regulation T-shirt; the bulge of prominent, hairy thighs beneath more regulation shorts.

The other bulge a little higher up.

Uhura couldn’t tear her eyes away as they jabbed, spun, sliced with their weapons-Spock’s, as she’d seen them in his quarters. Of course the commander would know of them; she and Spock shared common ancestry. Spock had never seemed this…animated when sparring with the captain, but the captain didn’t send out pheromones that could choke everyone within a fifty-meter radius, either.

Suddenly, the match was over. The commander was on her back and the lirpa’s blade kissed her jugular.

“Romulans do not yield,” the commander intoned on a silky purr that Uhura could hear despite the cheers and clapping.

“Vulcans do not kill unnecessarily,” Spock rumbled back, but he didn’t retreat.

The Romulan quirked her lips before grabbing Spock around the neck and crashing his lips down upon hers.

And amid all the catcalls and whistles, someone growled.

It wasn’t until she was well across the gym, feeling the bore of eyes on her as she left, did she realize it’d been she who’d done so.

“Uhura!”

She had no desire to speak to him and even less of a desire to listen; but then he’d pulled rank, and she was too competent of an officer to be blatantly belligerent.

Kirk came to stand before her and held the punching bag. His formerly unreadable face winced with the force of the blow she laid upon it.

“Who are you imagining right now?”

“Anything with a penis, sir,” Uhura replied, shooting out two jabs right near Kirk’s hands.

Kirk sighed. “I didn’t know-”

“Nor would you have cared,” Uhura said frankly, giving the bag an uppercut that almost caught Kirk in the chin. “It is your duty to get the mission done and that is what you did.”

“Don’t blame him-”

“Unless that is a direct order, sir, I don’t have to do anything,” Uhura said, then gave the bag a roundhouse kick. It jerked dangerously on the chain and Kirk let the bag go. Uhura stopped and hung her head, pinching the bridge of her nose against the tears that started to stab her eyes.

“I apologize for my insolence, Captain-”

“Uhura-”

“I’ll go to my quarters unless you need something from me.”

She prayed he wouldn’t make her look him in the eyes, and her shoulders sagged in relief when he officially dismissed her. She didn’t raise her head as she left the gym, nor did she hear anything but the self-recriminations running through her mind, which was why she jumped and squeaked when she saw McCoy and Spock on the turbolift with her, a turbolift one of them had put on emergency stop.

“You are distressed,” Spock said after a moment, his face its normal unreadable mask.

Uhura glared at him and crossed her arms at her chest. “What, pray tell, tipped you off?”

McCoy didn’t even attempt to hide his snort, but Uhura didn’t glance in his direction. “Why are you here?”

“You are distressed,” he repeated, his expression not changing.

“Why is the lift stopped?”

“I stopped it so you cannot avoid my queries,” Spock replied.

“And Leonard is here?”

“Because he is part of the issue at hand.”

“Hey, now, wait a minute-!”

“If that’s the case, shouldn’t the Romulan be in here too?”

Spock straightened and his nostrils flared. “For a human female, you have the very relieving fact of being direct.”

“Why dance around the subject, Spock? The sooner we finish here the soon you can f-”

Spock grasped her chin with more pressure than Uhura anticipated, causing her to gasp.

“Spock!” McCoy cried, but the Vulcan ignored him in favor of walking forward until Uhura’s back hit the turbolift wall. Her breath rushed out of her lungs and she licked her lips. Her eyes closed when his thumb followed the trail her tongue had made mere seconds before.

“Uh, Spock-?”

“She likes this, Doctor, do not be alarmed,” Spock rumbled once more. “Can you not smell her?”

Uhura’s eyes popped open. Spock’s eyes were closed. He inhaled deeply and exhaled slowly in steady intervals. Uhura shifted her gaze to McCoy, whose cocked eyebrow conveyed his own confusion.

“Spock, I’d really hate to have to report you for harassment-”

“Am I harassing you, Nyota?” he asked, the hold on her chin softening to the point his fingers trailed from her jaw to her collarbone. She trembled against the wall, her eyes rolling in the back of her head.

“Spock…”

His lips followed the path his fingers blazed, teasing her clavicle as his hands gripped her hips and slid her higher along the wall. When he had her where he wanted her, he ground his pelvis into her.

Uhura moaned.

“Does she sound harassed to you, Doctor?”

“Why am I here?” McCoy asked gruffly. Uhura slung herself over Spock’s shoulder and apologized to the good doctor with her eyes.

“Come closer, Doctor, and get on your knees.”

McCoy didn’t move from his spot, focus completely on her. “I’ll report him to command so fast-”

“Uhura’s counterpart revealed yours was often included in our more private moments, McCoy. I am providing an opportunity for the same.”

“What?!” both she and McCoy demanded.

Spock’s teeth gripped her earlobe. “I also know you were not repulsed by my counterpart’s interlude with you against the turbolift wall…”

She pulled back and looked into Spock’s eyes. She didn’t wonder how he knew that as he rested his forehead against hers.

“What I feel for the Romulan is nothing like what you feel for McCoy,” Spock replied quietly. “It is only lust between the commander and me, basic and primal.”

Uhura hid her face into Spock’s neck. “I’m sorry.”

He let her slide down the wall but kept his hands on her hips. “You would apologize for loving Dr. McCoy?”

She looked into the face of the Vulcan she loved so dearly, then averted her eyes over his shoulder to the face of the man she loved as well. McCoy came closer and stopped behind Spock, glancing at him before resting his eyes upon her.

“I don’t understand what’s going on,” Uhura said honestly, pressing her palms to her belly.

“You are not fickle with your emotions, Nyota,” Spock replied. “You have always been honest, as has Doctor McCoy. I only wish to prevent you further unnecessary angst in suggesting this new arrangement.”

“And you came to this conclusion while the Romulan shoved her tongue down your throat?” Uhura asked, unable to mask her derisive skepticism.

“Yes.”

Uhura unwittingly glanced at McCoy and smothered a giggle upon him rolling his eyes.

“Should I be grateful you’re giving me the go-ahead with your woman?” the doctor asked sarcastically

“Yes.”

Uhura let out a laugh this time and shook her head at Spock’s raised eyebrow.

“This is…unexpected from you.”

“We are not bonded. We have discussed this before,” Spock reminded her, his eyes darkening. Uhura hummed and pressed her body against his.

“I believe that conversation also involved a wall…”

“And I’m really still standing here,” McCoy said dryly.

“When you should be kneeling on the floor,” Spock said. “I would not want to assert my position as second in command.”

Uhura glared at Spock again before addressing McCoy. “Leonard, if you get on your knees, I will kick you.”

McCoy reared back and then nodded his head toward Uhura. “She’ll always outrank you when we’re off duty.”

Spock sighed. “Noted.”

Her mind still reeling, Uhura went to the emergency stop and disengaged it. She remained by the panel while the other gentlemen watched her from the far wall. Nobody spoke as they continued on the journey to her deck. When she disembarked, so did they, their eyes boring into her back. She opened the door to her quarters and all three stepped inside.

“We’re not really doing this, are we?” she asked, worrying her fingers with each other.

The immense heat at her back let her know Spock had approached, as did the strength of the long, lean arms wrapping about her waist. Scalding lips danced against her neck as wickedly warm hands slid up from her belly to her breasts.

“We will do whatever you wish, Nyota,” he whispered against her earlobe. “We are all consenting adults and there is no disloyalty on the part of anyone here. Of course, once we are bonded this arrangement will end; but I see no reason to not have this as an option for your enjoyment.”

“And the commander?” Uhura asked, sinking against Spock’s chest.

“Whatever attraction I had felt for her ceased the moment she kissed me, for all I could conclude was your kisses are far superior.”

“Conveniently so,” McCoy groused from behind them.

Uhura eased out of Spock’s embrace and approached the doctor. When she cupped his cheek, blue eyes slid closed and the tall, yet lanky body before her seemed to sag.

“I’ll not come between you two, Nyota.”

“That is impossible, as she is mine. However, because of her affection for you, I am willing to share until we are bonded. It is illogical to believe there is only one way to have a relationship, and you make her happy. I will admit, however, I cannot ascertain as to why…”

McCoy opened his eyes to glower at the Vulcan and Uhura laughed.

“And have you asked Uhura to ‘bond’ with you?” McCoy asked.

The softness that entered Spock’s eyes took Uhura’s breath away.

“I know of her desire for permanence, and I share it.”

Her insides turned to goo. “Spock…”

She tore her gaze from the first officer when McCoy grabbed her hand from his face and kissed her knuckles.

“I think you two should talk this out more. No doubt Spock felt your jealousy when he was sparring with the Romulan, and this is his unusually…odd…suggestion to ‘make things right’. Vulcans-”

“I am half-human, Doctor; but beyond that, Vulcans, while monogamous, are able to enter flexible relationships.”

“When it is logical, I’m sure,” McCoy said, rolling his eyes.

“Precisely. As we all recall, the fact T’Pring had a bond with me did not stop her from being with Stonn.”

“So how can you be sure this new ‘arrangement’ will stop after you ‘bond’ with Nyota?” McCoy asked.

The two humans clutched each other when Spock’s eyes turned black, his body going rigid, and his breathing became almost nonexistent.

“Methinks Mirror Spock and this Spock aren’t all that different,” McCoy whispered in Uhura’s ear.

She wasn’t sure if her shudder was from excitement or fear.

“Hmm, and on that note, I’ll take my leave!” McCoy said, squeezing Uhura’s elbow goodbye and exiting her quarters with barely a nod to Spock.

Spock’s mouth barely moved as he spoke. “You would choose him over me should I allow this?”

Uhura put her hands on her hips. “Allow?”

“This is no game, Uhura. I am willing to compromise to keep you happy, but not if you are happier with him than with me. I am trying to be a modern Vulcan, to use logic in order to keep you at my side. But we are a territorial race and I-” He pressed his lips together so he could say no more.

Uhura quirked her eyebrow and slid her hands along his jaw. “And I am a territorial woman.”

She smashed her mouth against his, moaning into the kiss as she tried to wrap a leg around his waist. Spock helped her along, holding up her thigh as his long flingers sank underneath her shorts to tease her dampening core.

“Territorial, illogical, emotional, and mine,” Spock moaned in her ear as he thrust his fingers inside her.

Uhura choked on a gasp.

“Do not ever forget that, Nyota. Do not ever think any woman could permanently turn me away from you, k'hat'n'dlawa.”

The endearment was a phaser blast straight to her mushy heart. She shook her head frantically, her lips dancing over the torn fabric of his T-shirt to the wounds the Romulan had inflicted upon him.

“And do not ever think I will ever let you go,” he ordered, taking the hand not inside her to force her face to his. “Such illogic goes against everything Vulcan within me.”

And as he kissed her and picked her up to carry her to the bed, Uhura couldn’t help but wonder if that sentiment applied to the human within him too.
