What's with shortening Castiel's name to Cass instead of Cas.  Does Castiel secretly have two ss's in it that I'm not aware of?

I KNOW I HATE IT WHEN THEY DO THAT.

(tho apparently that's the spelling the writers use...but even then, I don't know why. It makes no sense!)
