Burn Inquiry

Sep 25, 2007 05:39

So, I keep going back and forth on which version of my song "Burn" I should re-record for the album I'm working on, so I thought I'd trust popular opinion. Which version should I record?

Listen to these songs:
Original Burn
Burn (Crazystyle)

And then vote here:
Poll Burn Poll

music, burn, burn poll

I want to vote for the Burn (Crazystyle) one, but that one doesn't seem nearly as crazy as the "original burn", so I'm wondering if the links got confused? How about this: my vote is for the more acoustic one.

Nope, the links are right.

"Crazystyle" refers to the fact that that's what I call it when I'm explaining it to Jake at the begining of the song. The tempo is way faster.

The original one is the one with the "puppet voice". Though, I have to add, the puppet voice has nothing to do with this. Even if I record the acoustic one, I could throw down the puppet voice. Conversely, the one with all the electric guitars may not get a puppet voice in the recording.

To further complicate matters, the "stripped down" sound you hear in the Crazystyle version is that way because it's being played live, not because that's how I like it. Either version will be much more filled out intrument-wise.

So yeah. Basically, you're voting on tempo and the strumming partern of the main riff. Not much else.

It's a tough call. I like the pace of Original, but I like the simplicity of Crazystyle.
And I'm very impressed with how high you can pitch your voice.

I dig the whole acoustic sound of crazystyle. If it were as clear sounding as the other one I think it'd be perfect :D Good job :)

The melody works better, I think, when coupled with the "crazystyle" tempo and phrasing. I don't like the layered voices in the original, they either needs to be really together and right on beat with one another, or they need to be intricately placed just off the main tempo but in tempo or in a beat with each other so it doesn't sound messy. The melody of this song though, is so fantastic, I'd hate to see it covered up with unclear frills.

I forgot how much I really connected with this song. It's beautiful.

Yeah, the voices not being in synch, and my voice sounding like crap as well, was because I was drunk and had a cold.

But it's funny, just when I was finally leaning back towards the original, the resounding answer is the new version.

Good times.

I actually like the arrangements on the first one better. The recording isn't that great, but I can see what you were trying to do. I think that one could sound awesome. The second one sounds kind of like a pop punk song.

I'm glad that my insticts aren't all wrong. I was almost resolved in recording it more like the original, but then all the girls seemed to totally railroad it. You, Me, Justin, and my cousin Steve are the only ones that seem to prefer the original at the moment.

Maybe it's a boys vs. Girls thing? Or maybe(!) it's not?
