I assume the "baggy hand-me-down trousers" refer to his military pants? Also, I'm little confused by that last statement. Did Finland trade fishes for clothes with Italy or vice-versa or...? (Don't mind me, I'm working on sourcing the Nordic pages on the wiki!)

Thanks for pointing that out. It should probably be translated as "from Italy" to be clearer. So, yeah, Finland received some of his baggy pants from Italy in exchange for fish.
