THE TIME CAPSULE MEME

I don't try to spam you dudes with my art stuffs, but. Uh. I attempted realism on my tegaki e today, and I feel the need to share. It's worksafe, brohahs. Nothing to fear, except for my general lack of intelligence.

This is why Clare's a nerd. )

I think it looks pretty good. I can't do realism very well because I always focus too hard on one aspect of the face and miss the overall gestalt of it. The only thing that bothers me about it (besides the fact that a bunch of black stuff is covering the top of his head) is that the linework is really fuzzy; there's no strength to your lines, but maybe that's a stylistic choice. Also, I feel like from that angle that the right side of his nose (his right) should be defined a little more. Overall it looks good to me!

I guess I was trying too hard to be ~*ArTiStIc*~ with the background that I totally half-assed, ahaha. I guess I always have really sketchy lines, too, even in my work just drawing on paper. I should probably work on that, but having clean lines in Tegaki will like, eat all of my time. And my soul. ;_;

The picture I based this off of has really awesome lighting, it kind of had this artistic quality to it already.

Hrm, well it doesn't look too much like the reference pic, but still pretty good. One tip I do have is to work in layers if you can do that, since this looks like it was done digitally (though I don't know what program you used). Painter and Photoshop and most other similar programs have layers, so you can sketch out your drawing on one layer, then put a new one on top of it and refine your lines. A lot of it has to do with confidence, though. It's a lot easier to know for sure where you want your lines after you've sketched it out first. Sorry if that doesn't make sense orz

No, it makes sense. This was drawn with Tegaki E, an online Oekaki-esque website, which has no layers whatsoever. It's kind of a pain in the ass, hah. Currently I don't have Photoshop, since we wiped the hard drive I've needed the key adn I don't have it anymore. :C
