Hi there, I've just discovered your blog from Christchurch. We are planning to move to Melbourne end of this year with 2 young kids (a 2 yo and a 4 month old) and wondering if you have any tips on what suburbs are child friendly and good to live in? We haven't got jobs yet, but will mostly likely work in the CBD but don't plan to live there and want to commute into work. Also any recommendations on childcare centres? Many thanks!

Hi there, I loved Christchurch. Hope you guys are ok from the earthquake!
In Melbourne, I'd generally lived in the area around the city. For places closer to the CBD, you can consider suburbs like Richmond, Fitzroy, Brunswick, Carlton and South Yarra. Footscray and Kingsville are close to the city too and are a lil cheaper in rent.
But if you are willing to commute, Point Cook is quite lovely to stay in. They have childcare facilities for about 60AUD a day to put your kids in. (CBD childcare is INSANE and non tax deductible)
