mix: first and last waltz (the vampire songs)

It's NaNoWriMo season! Which means... mixtapes. Lots and lots of mixtapes. Chocolate, coffee, and mixtapes are what got me through NaNo last year. This one would be, I suppose, the third in a now-trilogy of Mixes For My Novel, along with That Light and Absolution. Good heavens ( Read more... )

HOW COME YOUR MIXES ARE ALWAYS BETTER THAN MINE. AND YOUR COVER ART. BECAUSE THIS IS AWESOME. (Also, how much fannish glee do you suppose it fills me with that you used "Lyke Wake Dirge"? I didn't even know that was its name or that it was a real song, but there you go.)

Well, if it's any comfort, technically I've been working on this in one way or another for the last three years. :P Half the songs were either rejected for That Light or were in The Giant NaNo Playlist Of Doom, or various creepy atmospheric mixes I kept trying to make in time for Halloween. (Also, this is probably the cover art I am most satisfied with, ever. Especially since my back cover art sucks about forty percent of the time.)

Heeeee, I knew about "Lyke Wake Dirge" from Madeleine L'Engle talking about it, and then it was in Neverwhere, and it is THE CHILLINGEST THING EVER, in words and music, seriously. I've had a Mediaeval Baebes version for a while, but it just didn't sound quite... weird enough for my vampires, I suppose.

Thanks for mix! frypan27 October 28 2009, 22:31:28 UTC
I'm a fan of Petracovich and came across your mix. Its quite lovely and the art work is beautiful. And I the idea of a sound track to your novel is a wonderful concept. I've always enjoyed literary and musical pairings. One of my favorites is the graphic novel Blankets and accompanying soundtrack by of the same name by indie band Tracker.

Thanks for posting this. Be well ~r

I've been listening to that song on repeat for about three years now, and it's still fresh and weird to me. :D
