Do you think I could sub in packaged crescent roll dough for the pastry? I will try making the pastry eventually, but for simplicitiy's sake I am curious about substituting.
I do think you could, but it won't taste as awesome. Also, let me encourage you: this dough is almost as easy as opening a package! Rolling it out is a breeze, and it's the BEST dough 101 starter recipe ever. So definitely try it with crescents if you want (Pillsbury makes a great product now that's crescent rolls without the seams -- perfect for this!) but please do give the dough a shot. :)
